[Update] Get Ready For The Final Fantasy XIV Open Beta

Update by: JKTrix. Tuesday August 31, 2010 at 07:22 AM.

It starts tonight. Not much else to say! Head over to the official site and you can download the client software installer before the whole thing goes live.

Square-Enix is changing things up with how they handle the different regions very soon, so make sure you pick the right region.

Update: The open beta is postponed because they came across 'critical bugs'. No new release is available right now, and the download of the installer will be suspended later today.

Eyes on Cosplay

Update by: Rye. Saturday August 14, 2010 at 06:10 PM.

I mentioned in my first news update that my focus is on Final Fantasy multimedia both offline and online. What better what to combine those to than to post photos of some excellent cosplay. Cosplay has an internet reputation for being comical, as there are many unsucessful cosplay photos floating around. On this website, we'd like to focus on promoting hard working cosplayers who succeed by putting a great deal of effort in their costume and accessories. So take a seat and prepared to be amazed by these fantastic Final Fantasy cosplayers!

Note: While we on Eyes on Final Fantasy love to give credit to all of the excellent cosplayers featured on our front site, we often are unable to find their information or name to credit them by. If you are one of the cosplayers featured on the front site and would like to be credited, please contact us via email, or better yet, contact us via the forum, and we will add your credit information ASAP! Thank you for your patience!

First up: This super awesome Final Fantasy X-2 cosplay of Yuna.

"Two years since the demise of Sin, Yuna finds herself involved in a Sphere Hunting group called the Gullwings after finding a Sphere which may contain the whereabouts of her lost love, Tidus. Since she can no longer summon Aeons, she has learned to defend herself through powerful machina pistols known to her as the "Tiny Bee"."

Wow, look at all of the work put into those accessories! Truly, there is not one detail spared. And the cosplayer even looks a lot alike Yuna. Fantastic! My favorite touch is the microphone. Songstress was always one of my favorite battle orientations to fight under!

Another Final Fantasy X-2 cosplay: Rikku!

"Rikku's back! Wearing a revealing outfit and wielding two daggers, she assists Yuna as a fellow member of the Gullwings. She was the one that set events into motion when she showed Yuna the mysterious Sphere of Tidus. Rikku is Yuna's younger cousin and is also the little sister of Brother."

Look how colorful that costume is - especially the scarf! The costume looks so incredible well sewn as well. The hair is also very well done. Who ever you are, Rikku cosplayer, Eyes on Final Fantasy gives you two thumbs up for your hard work!

I'm sure by now, you are all wondering why there haven't been any male cosplayers, or any other Final Fantasy cosplayers featured. Not to worry. I will satisfy both - here is a fantastic cosplay of a male character from Final Fantasy 7....

Reno of Final Fantasy 7!

"Reno is a prominent member of the Turks, ranking directly below Tseng, whose main weapon is a retractable, metallic stun baton called an Electro-Mag Rod. He is characterized as cocky, cynical, and somewhat lazy, but is nonetheless highly skilled and takes pride in his work."

Whoa! That tough look on his face scares me a little bit, to be entirely honest! He really nailed this cosplay well. It's one of my favorites I've ever seen. One thing I need to know: HOW did he get his hair to stay so perfectly styled? Hairspray could not possibly do it all. I bet he used egg yolk, but I'm not sure. Feel free to tell us your tips, cosplayer, on our forum.

And that's it for our Final Fantasy cosplay round up for now! Keep your eyes out for more, and be sure to discuss any thoughts you have about our featured cosplayers on our forum. Enjoy!

The Black Mages, Symphonics, and A Capella Goodness

Update by: Rye. Sunday August 8, 2010 at 08:04 PM.

I have sad news, friends. It was confirmed on August 7th that The Black Mages, the Japanese instrumental rock band formed by Nobuo Uematsu, Kenichiro Fukui, and Tsuyoshi Sekito, has disbanded. The reason for the break up is unconfirmed, but issues involving copyright and distance between band members are speculated as possible causes. Thank you for all of your great music, The Black Mages, and we hope for a possible reunion in the future.

Don't be too sad though. If you're looking new sources of Final Fantasy musical joy, look no further! Today, my Final Fantasy media focus is on symphonic and a capella groups that have covered Final Fantasy music. Enjoy!

Media Monday

Update by: Rye. Monday July 26, 2010 at 07:01 PM.

The Final Fantasy online community is teeming with individuals that take their love of the series to the next level. Many of those people put hard work into their cosplay, or create fan art/crafts, or other such things. In all my years of being within the Final Fantasy community, however, I've never seen someone sing original Disney covers... in Al Bhed!

"I Won't Say I'm In Love (Hercules)" - Original Cover in Al Bhed by folktalebird

Not only is folktalebird's voice very pretty, but her pronunciation is spectacular! Wow!

I tried singing along to the lyrics of the karaoke version (see below) of the Al Bhed "I Won't Say I'm In Love", and I got tongue tied rather quickly. She must have put a lot of effort into this. Please cover more Disney songs in Al Bhed, for us Final Fantasy & Kingdom Heart lovers! Perhaps Simple & Clean? ...

FFXIV Classes Revealed

Update by: Tavrobel. Monday July 26, 2010 at 01:28 AM.

Details regarding which classes will be playable in flagship game, Final Fantasy XIV have been made available to the public.  18 classes with several subdivisions will cover what is and what is not allowed for player characters.  Along with classes, the recommended hardware and software requirements for FFXIV have also been revealed.  A forum thread has also been started, so come join in on the discussion.

In related news, flagship game Final Fantasy XIII has also had its fair share of PR: certain rumors have stated that based on recent company actions, FFXIII may be headed for the XBox 360 in Japan.  The game is also set to have a drama CD associated with it.  Drama CDs are a popular medium by which the canon of the universe may be expanded cheaply and efficiently.
