Patient in the Desert | |
Available: | After the Inauguration Ceremony |
The first step is to complete the Dalmasca's Desert Bloom Mark. After the mark, talk to Dantro again and he'll ask you to take the Cactus Flower to his wife. She can be found in the village to the North. After giving her the flower she will give you a bundle of needles. Leave the village and then come back to talk to her again. She will ask for some Semclam Shells. Look on the beach in the village to find five sets of them. You only need one, but it's better to collect all five. Take these to her and she will once again ask for your help. Now she needs Nebralim, an item she says her husband should have. Go back and talk to him. After the conversation you should be able to find two Small Phails. These are what you need to bring back to Dantro's wife. Talk to her again and this time she will ask for a Drop of Valeblossom Dew. At this point the sidequest takes a break. It can be picked back up again once the rainy season starts and you complete the Cactuar Family sidequest. After the sidequest a ferry will be able to take you across the river. Once you cross, there are three seperate trees in the Broken Sands area where you must collect dew. Bring these back to Dantro's Wife, and get ready to help her once again. This time you need a Great Serpentskin. To get one you must complete the Marauder in the Mines Mark. After giving the serpentskin to her, the sick traveler needs his rest, and maybe a bit of chicken soup. Leave the village for some time. It's best to continue with the story or other sidequests/hunts. You'll know you've waited long enough when Dantro's wife says the patient is well again. Talk to him and he'll give you the Barheim key! You'll also get a Golden Amulet, Magick Gloves, or Balance Mote, depending on how many shells you collected on the beach. The key opens the path to the Esper Zalera through a locked door found in Murmuring Defile of the Dalmasca Estersand. |

It's possible for her to move throughout the city, so if she isn't at the steps you may have to look for her. Answer "Is the city not wonderful? I still lose my way on occasion, but I have come to know some of her walks and alleyways. But the land, I cannot hear it... Should this not trouble me as a Viera?", with, "Yes, you should be ashamed". Answer "I knew my choice would bring hardship, yet..." with, "You should've thought it through". Answer, "I would be as she is. Do you think it possible?" with, "It'll never happen". Now answer, "Perhaps it would be better if I too became a warrior like my sister. What do you think?" with, "I think it's a good idea". After this she will walk away to the Clan Hall. Talk to her there to recieve the sword. While fishing in the first three areas of the Fishing Nebra River sidequest, the fisher will sometimes catch an empty bottle. Five of these empty bottles will be a special color and come with a clue to finding the Matamune rod. The clues can be read in the Key Items inventory. Put the clues together and you'll find a message that leads to the fishing pole.
Blue Bottle | |
The clue will say, "Truth lies just beyond falsehood. CDZCKZMCRANZS". What the clue is saying is that you need to add a letter to the jumbled word to read the true meaning. When done, it says DEADLANDS BOAT. Go to the Nabreus Deadlands in the Echos of the Past section. The Southeast corner will have something called "Faint Glow". Search it to recieve an X-Potion and a message that says, "River...unde...o".
Green Bottle | |
The clue will say, "Skip on stones to far bank's shore, by skipping stones return once more. SSADLNIAKLADHAUETDNREA". This means to read every other letter of the clue, and then reading the skipped letters from right to left. It will say, "Salika Hut near Deadlands". It's talking about the Salika Woods Pebble Path. Find the "Faint Glow" near where you enter to find the clue, "Forest...rgro...w", and a Hastega Mote.
Red Bottle | |
The clue will say, "Foothills rise in Mountains nhliQsTUrEe". This somehow means to search the Quiet Shrine in Mosphoran Highwaste's Bubbling Vale. You'll get a Holy Mote and the message, "Fire...undb...h".
Yellow Bottle | |
The clue will say, "Dragons stir among the eaters of the wind. 12--5-7-9-". It's talking about the windnills in the Cerobi Step. Windmills 1,2,5,7 and 9 must be turned on. 3,4,6,8, and 10 needs to be turned off. You'll then get the message, "Ash...ridge...e".
Black Bottle | |
The clue will say, "Easy as a, b, c, so count yourself lucky. 19-12-21-9-3-5-7-1-20-5-18-1-20-19". These numbers stand for letters of the alphabet, with 1 being A, and 26 being Z. Write down the corresponding numbers to letters to get the "Sluice Gate Rats message. In the Central Waterway Control room of the Garmsythe Waterway you'll find some rats. Follor them when they all join together to find the "Faint Glow". Search it for an Elixer and the message, "Darkness...eton...e".
Figuring the Messages Out
With all the "Fait Glow" messages put together it spells out, "Underground Bridge to Nowhere". It's talking about the Barheim Passage. In the middle of the Barheim Passage is an area that has two bridges that exit an area and connect to the same area. Search the Northern area they lead to and you'll find the Matamune Rod. |
Balfonheim Port Footrace
Available: | Must accept the Who's the Strongest Mark first |
After accepting the hunt talk to Rikken in Balfonheim Port's Saccio Lane. You'll be challenged to a footrace that you can complete multiple times. The competiters are Rikken, who sticks to the left of the path, Elza, who zig-zags along the path and can run fast, and Raz, who can be tripped to keep left behind. The concept of racing is to press the X and Circle buttons to move Vaan's feet. The X button moves his left foot and turns him left, the Circle his right. You'll want to keep Elza to the left or she will take off and leave you behind. Raz shouldn't be much of a problem as long as you can cut in front of him and trip him when he tries to pass. Rikken should be easy to beat. There are 100 tiers to the race and each one has it's own prize. |
